A Report to an Academy
(INFORME DE LA ACADEMIA)
A Report to an Academy is a metaphor of the inner struggle of everyman as he adapts himself to the reality that he has to live. The story is of an ape named Peter the Red, and his experiences of being captured in the Gold Coast and sent, caged, on a ship to Hamburg, where he fights between adapting himself to his environment or dying. Facing this dilemma, the protagonist decides to "give up his identity" in order to dedicate himself to music hall and vaudeville, undergoing a training process to forget his nature as an ape and adopt the characteristics of human nature. After five years of confusion, resignation, suffering and loneliness, Peter "unravels his former life as an ape in his dressing room, unleashing all he had to forget in order to survive.”
An original work by Franz Kafka, written in 1917, full of humor in spite of its harshness, its narrative is "poetic, almost magical".
Since 1984, lead actor Rubén Cristiany has performed in over thirty plays under the direction of Luis de Tavira, José Caballero, Pablo Mandoki, Germán Castillo and Ludwik Margules, among others. Besides theatre, he has also acted in cinema and television.
