El Orgrito (The Ogreling) is Quebec playwright Suzanne Lebeau’s stunning story about the monster within all of us. Adapted from her original French text, and presented in Spanish with projected English super titles, Lebeau’s poignant coming-of-age story chronicles the struggles of a young boy born to a human mother and an ogre father as he tries to overcome his animal instincts and find his place in human society. El Ogrito had its US premiere at 24th Street Theatre, as part of its Teatro Nuevo Internacional program. 24th Street Theatre is dedicated to producing and presenting cutting-edge, thought provoking work that challenges its audiences and is significant to the community and the world. The production has toured in Ensenada, Mexicali and Tijuana and is scheduled to tour Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico (Sept. 2009) and San Salvador, El Salvador (March, 2010).
